With just a couple of weeks left for the release of Sivaji - The Boss, the whole of Kollywood is gearing up for the mega movie.

The mega-budgeted film with big names like Rajinikanth, Shankar, A R Rahman and some of most talented technicians like cameraman K V Anand, editor Anthony, art director Thotta Tharani, writer Sujatha, choreographers Raju Sundaram, Larencce and Brinda, and costume designer Manish Malhotra coming together is settling down fast for release on 31 May.

The latest from the Sivaji camp is that the magnum opus film has been censored. As expected, quite like earlier Rajinikanth films, Sivaji has been cleared with a U Certificate.

Sources in the Censor Board say, “It is a perfect entertainer and carries with it a good message”.

Interestingly both AVM (Producers) and Rajinikanth are known for coming out with good, clean entertainers that can be watched with the family.

With the movie getting censored so also the trailer, the wait will now end for the trailer. Very soon, the Sivaji trailer will rock television screens and cinema halls.

It would be destination Sivaji beginning 31 May. The much-awaited film which has created a lot of hype and expectations is releasing on 31 May with maximum number of prints. The movie has been the talk of the town what with the biggest marquee names in Kollywood (Rajini, Shankar, A R Rahman), and some of most talented technicians like cameraman K V Anand, editor Anthony, art director Thotta Tharani, writer Sujatha, choreographers Raju Sundaram, Larencce and Brinda, and costume designer Manish Malhotra have figuring in it

The movie which is Rajinikanth's 168th movie is interestingly his 100th straight film in Tamil.

With AVM too pulling out all stops to make the movie fit the image of Rajini and the imagination of Shankar, the expectations are at an amazing high.

The movie is director Shankar's eighth film, his luck rests on eight. Rajinikanth favors nine and this is his ninth movie with AVM.

Rajinikanth, who looks refreshing, thanks to costumes designed by Manish Malhotra considers Thursdays to be an auspicious day. The movie releases on Thursday.

What more, acclaimed cinematographer K V Anand has used state-of-the-art technology to shoot the movie. He has used advanced Super - 35, 4k tech, to shoot the movie. This is the first-ever time such a technology being introduced in Tamil cinema.

Due mention should be made of art-director Thota Tharani. He has come up with grand sets and recreated foreign locales in Chennai for a song sequence.

Anthony, who has carved a niche with his slick editing, has reportedly come up with a stupendous work. Sujatha, who is known for crisp and meaningful dialogues and scintillating music by A R Rahman are sure to work in favor of the film.

With a team of talented choreographers in Prabhu Deva, Raju Sundaram, Larencce Raghavendra and Brinda coming together, no doubt the choreography in Sivaji would be hip-shaking and eye-catching. Veterans Vaali (Adhiradikaran) and Vairamuthu (Vaji Vaji) along with a young brigade comprising Na Muthukumar (Ballelaka), Pa Vijay (Style), have come up with catchy lyrics that is set to scintillating tunes by Rahman. The songs are already a craze among music-buffs and are repeatedly aired in several FM Radio Stations.

Rahman has composed the background score in Chennai, London and Cheq Republic. Designer Manish Malhotra, who has worked his magic on such Bollywood beauties like Karishma Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and Kajol, was roped in to work his undoubted skill on Rajinikanth. His effort seems to have paid of. For, going by the stills released to the press, Rajini looks at his smartest best.

Shriya plays Rajini's heroine. On being part of a Rajinikanth film, Shriya says, “It was project which had all the big names in Tamil film industry. When Shankar offered me the role, I immediately grabbed it with both hands since I am a great fan of Rajinikanth”.

Others in the cast include Vivek, Suman, Raghuvaran, Manivannan, and Vadivukarasi, Solomon Pappaiyah, Raja, Bose Venkat and others.

With 31 May declared as the release date of Sivaji, expectations and hype has increased double-fold on the movie.

Produced by M Saravanan and M S Guhan for AVM Productions, the movie featuring Rajinikanth and directed by Shankar has few surprising coincident coming its way.

According to AVM Productions, “Those of us who believe in coincidence being form of divine intervention, there is a lot of that in Sivaji. Sivaji release on May 31

It's official now: Sivaji, the biggest blockbuster ever to be made in Tamil, will be released on May 31.

After all the speculation and rumor, AVM productions, the producers of this mega movie, today formally confirmed the release date.

Rajinikanth, the film's hero who is now in the North, is expected to arrive in Chennai before the release.

Shankar, the film's director, is almost through with the film's post-production work.

A R Rahman too has finished his part.

Sivaji, made at an estimated budget of over Rs.30 crore, has Shriya playing the heroine. Suman is the villain while Vivek plays the comedian.

The film was originally scheduled to be released on April 14.

Rajini re-dubs for Sivaji

Before he set off to Himalayas, Rajinikanth, a thorough professional, re-dubbed for some of his scenes in Sivaji.

Rajinikanth was apparently not satisfied with the result of his initial dubbing work.

When he heard them and saw the rushes, the superstar was little disappointed with his dubbing.

So he immediately told director Shankar that he would want to re-dub the whole thing.

Shankar too a stickler for order immediately agreed.

So Rajini went through the process again and did not stop till he got the satisfying result.

That is humility for you.

People talk of the pressure of expectations on Sachin Tendulkar whenever he steps out to bat in Indian colours. But spare a thought for A R Rahman too. The Mozart of Madras is in no less unenviable position. Every time a film’s audio for which he has scored music is out, the whole world sits up to listen. And for Sivaji, the pressure is three-fold, as he has to satisfy his own fans, that of Rajinikanth and Shankar too. In such a situation, when you have constituencies to live up to, the music inevitably is populist.

In Sivaji, Rahman’s music works at two levels — as he shows glimpses of his own splendid arrangement-orchestration skills. The second is in smart packaging in an effort to live up to the myriad demands of diverse sections.

The seven tracks in the album don’t fit in a particular genre. And that is to be expected. Some of them appeal instantaneously. And some, like many Rahman numbers, take time to settle down. Mass elements are inevitably there. It is to Rahman’s credit (and genius) that he has managed to incorporate melody within the ambit of rhythm-based numbers.

Balelakka: SPB, Raihanah, Benny & Chorus

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

A Rajini introduction song is a non-negotiable instrument of sorts. It has to have SPB belting it out with his unmistakable gusto. It has to have some pulsating beats. It must make you snap the fingers and tap the foot. This song makes you do all that and plus some more. SPB is amazing with his breath-controlled rendering. This man never ceases to amaze us. He might be over 60. But who would say that after listening to this number. The interludes and the rhythms give an extra pep to the proceedings. Raihanah (Rahman’s sister) and Benny also chip in with their best. Muthukumar’s lyrics set out in typical fashion.

Style: Rags, Tanvi, Suresh Peters, Blaaze

Lyrics: Pa Vijay

The song works in many ways as it has a variegated pattern to it. As the initial words suggest, the song talks of style, which is the essence of Rajini. But Rahman, as he is wont to, has worked the tune in a slightly recondite way, in that it moves around an attractively bewildering manner. You have Blaaze letting out his typical staccato rap bits while Suresh Peters bungs in his anglicized rendering. And suddenly, almost catching you unawares, you have Tanvi chipping in with a beautiful morsel in traditional Tamil. Though the song is multi-dimensional, it works, especially with its surprise swerves and Rahman’s mastery over arrangements. Style is in Rajini and Rahman too.

Vaaji Vaaji: Hariharan, Madhushree & Chorus.

Lyrics: Vairamuthu

Perhaps this will be the anthem of the State for some time to come. Musically, the song may have nothing new. But Rahman’s genius lies in packaging. Building layer by layer, he lets the song rise up like a beautifully created skyscraper that is high on both aesthetics and utility. Rahman has made Hariharan croon in a un-Hariharan-like manner. Perhaps that maybe the trick that makes the song work and makes Vairamuthu’s lyrics stand out in beautiful relief. Madhushree is adequate without being anything extraordinary. The tempo and the beats make this a good mass song.

Athiradee: AR Rahman, Sayanora

Lyrics: Vaali

This is straight away Rahman turf. The man knows which song to pick and sing. His nasal twang may not appeal the first time. But they just take control of you over a period of time. Athiradee does. The lyrics are unabashedly Vaali as he plays to the gallery big time. But his smart mind chisels out interesting lines. Vaali deserves special plaudits for his ability to think in sync with the modern generation. The rollicking beats and the guitar ensemble give a good edifice for the song as Rahman gives it all he has. As a singer, Rahman has also improvised, and innovated, with his voice. The effect is ethereal. The song takes time to take effect on you, but once it does it doesn’t vanish. That’s Rahman effect for you. A high-octane song.

Sahana: Udit Narayanan, Chinmayee

Lyrics: Vairamuthu

When it comes to Tamil words, Udit Narayanan’s tongue becomes a knife of sorts as they (words) are chopped mercilessly. But here you will almost forget that failing as the song and its inherent melody fill you in a cool embrace. Chinmayee is Rahman’s big weapon. He uses her for songs that deserve something special. Right from Kannathil Muthamittal we have been seeing that. Here too the young girl sings with a rare elan which comes from the combination of talent and intelligence. Chimayee’s speciality is that she is no one-type singer. She can deliver according to the needs. The Rahman interlude (in voice) adds a special mystique appeal to the number. A honey-dipped flower. That is this song for you.

The Boss: Blaaze, Naresh Iyer, Raqueeb Alam

Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar, Blaaze

Probably the theme number. Or a kind of leitmotif in the movie. The song has its limitations as it is perhaps situational. The lyrics too are puerile as the words are forced and stretch for effect. The rap bit is on expected lines. Naresh Iyer dulcet voice manages to leave a mark even in this small piece.

Sahara: Vijay Yesudas, Gomathi Sree & Chorus

Lyrics: Vairamuthu

This seems to be a modulated version of the Sahana song. But what a beauty it is. Rahman’s mastery is all pervading. He has fused a variety of ideas into this one number and his unquestionable brilliance with soft instruments show up elegantly. The way he has got Gomathi Sree slip in that Thirupavai bit underscores his virtuosity. And she also rises to the occasion quite brilliantly. But the song-stealer is Vijay Yesudas. The young man shows that he is well and truly on the way to filling the perch that once belonged to his illustrious dad. Vijay is very soothing and pleasing in this number. When he and a tiny flute join forces, you could almost feel heaven A fitting finale to a rocking album.

To be sure, there will be different opinions on the songs. There will be carping critics who will pronounce that the album doesn’t measure to usual Rahman standards. But you have to take into consideration the situation that Rahman was working under.

All things considered, you can unequivocally say that Rahman has delivered.

Sivaji songs will be heard for a long, long time.

Sivaji audio hits the market

The much awaited audio of Sivaji is out. AVM Productions released the audio in a low key affair at their studios in Chennai on Monday.

For the last few days A V M studios in Chennai is bustling with activity. The unit of Sivaji is stationed there to complete a few sequences in Tamil as well as Telugu. Director Shankar after seeing the rushes of the climax opined that it requires still more honing and perfecting.

He felt that few dialogues can be added to render the climax a distinctive touch. A grandiose set has been erected in A V M studios where the shooting is proceeding now. Currently climax scene is being picturized there in full swing. After canning these shots and completing the patch up work, post production work will commence. This is piracy at its peak. A team of dedicated technicians work their hearts out to bring the best music, just to find their creations released online even before the official launch. Yes, we are talking about Sivaji, Superstar Rajinikanth’s magnum opus under the direction of Shankar and the music of A.R.Rahman.

The audio of this most awaited movie was all set to be released on April 4th with a small in house ceremony at AVM. But the online pirates had a different plan. The full length versions of three out of the proposed six songs were illegally released by an UK website in the early hours of 22nd of March.

“Oru Koodai Sunlight, Oru Koodai Moonlight”, ala the style of American rapper 50 cents, “Vaa Vaa Sivaji”, a peppy number by Hariharan-Sadana Sargam combination and “Sahana Saaral”, a trade mark Rahman melody, sung by Udit Narayanan, are the three songs for which the full length mp3 tracks have been released.

March 22nd 2007, will be a Black Thursday for Shankar and his crew, who have been working day in and day out to get the movie ready for the big World wide release on April 14th. They will be mighty shocked with this news of songs leaking out online, or on the contrary, were they already prepared for this.
Mp3 leakage is not something new to Shankar and Rahman. Their earlier venture, Boys had met with the same fate with songs hitting the Information Highway two days before the official launch. Even in the case of Sivaji, a 40 sec clip of “Oru Koodai Sunlight” was doing the rounds online much before this release of the full length version.
Rahman who has been raising his voice in support of royalty for musicians might be taken a back by this development. No one is sure about the source of this leakage as yet. The processing lab, someone in the maestro’s team or a production crew member, anyone can be responsible for this bad doing. It would also be interesting to see if the production house, AVM files an official complaint with the Cyber Crime Police.

In the meantime, expectations among Rajini and Rahman fans is at an all time high for the audio to hit the stands on April 4th. Reports from Music world, a music outlet in Chennai, suggest that there is a growing enquiry on the release of the audio and there are also requests for advance reservation on the CDs. The audio is getting released under the AVM banner.

Piracy or no piracy, come April 4th, the music showrooms would be flooded by fans to get their hands on Sivaji audio.

AVM Saravanan opens up on Sivaji

It is official now. AVM Saravanan, the producer of Sivaji, has announced in a press statement that Sivaji will hit the silver screens on April 12, come what may. Saravanan, in his first-of-its-kind interview on Sivaji, ever since the movie was kicked off, stated that Sivaji's editing is being done in top gear to enable the movie to be released on April 12.

Dubbing for Rajini's portions were over yesterday, which marked an end to the dubbing activities for Sivaji. We have decided to release the movie on April 12, which is considered to be an auspicious day, said Saravanan. The movie is produced in both Tamil and Telugu and the Tamil version will be released in Kerala, he added. The Telugu version will be called 'Sivaji - The Boss'.

He further mentioned that large number of prints of the movie are ordered as opposed to any other Tamil movie. Cassettes of Sivaji will hit the stores in a couple of weeks from now and not later than the second week of March.

The most awaited film of 2007- Sivaji is nearing completion. With the post-production work going on in full swing, the next biggest question haunting the millions of fans world wide is about the audio launch.

Inside sources say that the audio launch of the film is most likely to be held in March 2007.

Director Shankar is calling the shots and doesn't want any kind of leads to be leaked out much before the release of the movie. They want to cash in on the hype that the audio release would create and release the movie within a month of the audio launch. Moreover, Shankar and Rahman are putting their hearts into the background score out of which one or two tracks might also be included in the album.

AVM is also contemplating of releasing the audio under their banner. Since they already have an audio label in their name, the process becomes easier. Added to that, there is a precedence of a great musical victory of Shankar-Rahman combination in 'Boys' few years back. This factor is also said to tilt the balance in their favor. The possibility of handing over the entire rights package for audio, film, overseas and satellite to one single company is also not ruled out.

Shooting for Rajni's 'Sivaji' nearing completion

The shooting for Rajnikant's next Tamil film 'Sivaji' will be completed this week, exactly a year after it started.

'Sivaji' is expected to be the superstar's next blockbuster after 'Chandramukhi'. The film took Rajnikant from Chennai to Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mysore, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Spain as well.

Though the cost of its production has not been publicised, trade pundits say 'Sivaji' can boast the biggest budget among all Rajnikant films as well as those produced under the prestigious AVM banner.

Producers claim that this is also the film for which Rajnikant has shot the most number of days.

The editing, graphics and background music will be completed in about three months and the film should be ready for release by Tamil New Year in April.

'Sivaji' will be released simultaneously in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala as well as abroad. Over 500 prints of the film are being made to meet the anticipated demand. The music will hit the market before the release.

Rajnikant will head to Rishikesh for his usual pilgrimage-cum-holiday after the shooting, sources close to him said.

As a festival, it was a grand success. Many wonderful foreign films were screened.

Rajini shoots at Soundarya’s native place

Rajinikanth, on Wednesday, shot a few scenes for his Sivaji at a remote village called Devasamuthiram in Karnataka. It is the native of actor Soundarya, who passed away in a helicopter mishap.

A panchayat scene was shot at the village wherein Rajinikanth and Vivek land in a helicopter at the venue. Over 250 junior artistes took part in the sequence. A huge set replicating a panchayat office was set up at the village.

Later Rajinikanth also acted in a stunt scene involving several stunt artistes.

Unlike earlier films of Rajinikanth, which were shot completely in studios and huge sets, Shankar has been canning Sivaji in several cities and villages.

Shooting for a couple of days for Sivaji in Bangalore resulted in police resorting to lathicharge to disperse the fans who gathered to see Rajinikanth.

The movie has been constantly making the headlines. With a high-voltage combination of Rajinikanth, Shankar, AVM, A R Rahman, can you keep the expectation and curiosity down.

The film, after shooting over the last week in Thiruporur, has now moved on to Bangalore.

With Rajinikanth, still very popular in Bangalore, there has been a surge of fans at the film shooting spot.

Forest officials arrest crewmembers – Shankar, Rajini shocked

Trouble gives chase Sivaji in the form of mismanagement of the shoots. Earlier shoots were disrupted in the locality of Pachayappa’s College for lack of proper approval from the local police. Did you think the production crew has learnt a lesson or two in obtaining approvals for the ensuing shoots? It seems not. The shoots were suspended once again yesterday when forest officials came in demand of approval.

Sivaji crew is camped in the outskirts of Chennai and Kanchipuram and the shoots are being carried out in Thiruporur and Alandur. While scenes of Rajini’s encounter with the villains were being canned in the sets erected by the roadside, forest officials came demanding the approval since the area belonged to the forest department. However, the production unit presented the approval obtained in this regard from the Highways Department claiming that the area belonged to Highways Department.

The officials departed the place, only to return with the Kanchipuram District Forest Officer Leema Doshi later to arrest Sakthi and Venkat of the production unit for conducting shoots without prior approval and felling trees in the forest area.

Shankar, Rajini, and K.V. Anand were startled after this incident and the shoots were to be cancelled following this. Though the shoots were not wrapped up, it is unsure as to when the shoots will resume since it was earlier planned to conduct the shoots for two days.

Eventually Sakthi and Venkat were released later after the requisite fine of Rs. 50,000 was paid. But was the lesson learnt atleast after this? Cancellation of Rajini’s shoots is definitely a big deal and a setback for the progress of the movie. Will the production management pay heed to all the approvals before they grant a go ahead for conducting the shoots? Two lessons in a row, another one may prove pricey.

Alandur – where the shoots were conducted – sprung to bustling life with the visit of the superstar and bigwigs of the industry.

The small scale industries functioning in the industrial area of Alandur declared a local holiday to facilitate the fans to witness the shoots of Sivaji.

Whilst on the subject, recently when the shoots were held in and around Pune – where Rajini danced with the Tamil folk artistes – the superstar demonstrated his fondness for the folk artistes by conferring a cash price of Rs. 5,000 upon all the 63 of them. Superstar to superhuman?

The latest buzz doing rounds is that it may have a slightly delayed release.

Sources say the movie would be released on 8 May, 2007. Shankar is superstitious and always released his movies on 8. Interestingly, Sivaji is his eighth directorial venture.

The hottest tiding from Tamil cinema is that Tamil super star Rajnikant is likely to sing in his forthcoming film.

According to the Kollywood buzz, music director of Sivaji , A R Rahman , is keen that the super star sing the song himself.

Incidentally, Rajnikant has sung one song: Adikkuthu Kuliru for the film ‘Mannan’. That tune had been set by noted composer Ilayaraja .

It remains to be seen whether Indian cinema's 'Sultan of Style' will ultimately agree to croon for his own film.

Now the crew is in Pune for the opening song as well which is being penned by Na. Muthukumar – refer to our earlier reports on this too.

A coupe of days back, the intro song involving Rajni and Nayan was shot near a dam. It is also reported that more than 5,000 junior artistes were brought in from Tamilnadu for this specific song sequence.

Shankar known for his grandiose has revived the dying dance form of Tamil Nadu Viz. Mayilaatam, Oyilaatam and Karagaatam in this number, which is alleged to be a foot tapping number. The crew will be back in Chennai after canning the shoots in Pune for the next schedule, which is speculated to commence from November 14.

Sivaji, the mega attraction of the ensuing year 2007 is packed with all the possible features that the team Rajini, Shankar, and Rahman can assimilate. To add to the glamour quotient, the movie has Shreya, Nayantara, and Mallika Sherawat. It is indeed a five star feast for Rajni fans all over the world.

Aishwarya Rai regrets missing Sivaji

‘Que sera sera’ or ‘whatever will be, will be’ is a famous song of yesteryears which aptly conveys the thought of the former Miss World Aishwarya Rai when she was questioned about her marriage. Recently she was in Chennai in connection with the inauguration of watch collections for a leading international brand. As her marriage appears to be the staple obsession of every citizen of this country, she was queried on the subject in this occasion also.

Answering this topmost burning issue of the nation, she said it would surely happen one day when the entire world would come to know of it. At this juncture she is not in a position to declare the time, venue and the person to whom she would be united in wedlock. As a strong believer of destiny, she said that her wedding would take place as per God’s will and fate.

Also, while commenting about her inability to feature in Rajini’s Sivaji, she said, “I really miss being a part of Shankar’s unit with whom I have shared a great rapport during the making of Jeans.

The scene to be shot is for the climax of the film.

The team will adjourn to the Maharashtra town as Shankar, the film’s director, had got the palatial house he was looking for.

The celebration of the success of 'Imsai Arasan'was celebrated on Saturday at the Kalaivanar Arangham. PRO NIkil Murugan welcomed the gathering.

The artistes on the dais included Rajini, Vijay, Prabhu and Sathyaraj as the program commenced at 6.30pm. Having written all the songs for the film, poet Pulamai Pithan’s welcome address in wonderful Sangam Tamil was music to the ears. For some reason, he left out aachi Manorama in his welcome, much to her indignation!

Vivek is a competitor for Vadivelu in comedy. It was heartening to see that Vivek had not only been invited for the function, he proceeded to express his appreciation for Vadivelu’s acting in the film. Vivek addressed Vadivelu as "Annan Vadivelu avargale" and when vadivelu spoke, he said "Vivek called me his annan in acting!" and everyone burst into laughter at this spontaneous humour.

As Vijay, Prabhu, Sathyaraj and Manorama lauded Vadivelu for his good acting, the comedian was seen beaming in happiness.

Mementoes were distributed in the middle of the function and the audience waited eagerly for Rajini to speak. "Everyone considers Shankar to be skilled and intelligent. That’s not so. He’s just an ordinary man. But there’s a 16 year old fan in him. He makes movies for that boy and satisfies that hunger in him. I have already seen 'Imsai Arasan'twice. It seems as if director Simbudevan has the experience of already directing a 100 films. He has a great future. He could even make a sequel to this Pulakesi film.

The foundation for this film’s success if Vadivelu. If Vadivelu had been fair of countenance, he would have given heroes like Kamal, Ajith, Vijay and me, a run for our money!" What better compliment than this to delight an ecstatic Vadivelu!

Chiranjeevi's 'no' and Rajini's 'yes'?

Munnabhai M.B.B.S was remade in Telugu as Shankar Dada M.B.B.S and recorded a colossal victory at the box office with Cheeru in the lead. Hence when its sequel Lage Raho Munnabhai was purchased by Gemini films for twenty crores to be produced in Telugu, it is but natural for everyone to expect the same combination again.

But Chiranjeevi is claimed to have refused this offer. When he was questioned on this, this mega star of Tollywood had reportedly said that this film when remade would not benefit the distributors. According to him, he would get involved in a project only when all the parties involved would be profited. Hence in a situation where the distributors are not going to be happy, he does not feel the necessity to get ahead with the mission. It is indeed a noble gesture and consideration on Cheeru's part to think about the benefits of everyone.

Sivaji, Dasavatharam and their skyrocketing budget

Movie making is no child’s play. Tamil movie making is reaching new turns these days owing to their exorbitant budgets and mega star casts. What plays a significant role in deciding a mega movie? The hefty paycheck of the actors followed by the paycheck of directors and heroine of the movie. While these aspects devour the lion’s share of the movie’s budget, the rest of the budget is spent on extravagant sets, ostentatious costumes, and exotic locales, which fulfills the budget.

Interestingly, crores have become no matter of concern these days. Even a movie with a shoestring budget and not-a-star-thing-cast costs more than a crore in Tamil cinema and if the returns are satisfactory, producers resort to those kinds of movies in large numbers to try their luck at the box office. Many have managed to make money though that way.

Rajini’s Sivaji and Kamal’s Dasavatharam are the two upcoming movies with out of the ordinary budget.

While Rajini’s movies are always meant to be flamboyant costing close to 40 crores, Kamal’s movies are nothing far behind. Kamal’s Dasavatharam is expected to touch a 35 crore budget mark owing to its added attractions like Himesh Reshmmiya, Mallika Sherawat, and Kamal himself in 10 different roles.

Out of Sivaji’s budget, Rajini takes home close to 20 crore which is more than just half of the budget. Next comes Shankar with a paycheck of 3 crores. Rahman’s paycheck is two crores and the heroine Shreya is paid 30 lakhs. Other expenses like special effects, technicians’ wages, outdoor shooting expenses – especially in locations outside India contribute to the rest of the budget.

Luckily, and to the benefit of the producer, Rajini’s movies have a minimum guarantee all over the world. His flicks will be sold at a minimum of 30 lakhs per print, which almost covers up the entire budget that was spent on the moviemaking.

If that is not enough, the movies promisingly make a huge profit almost all the time. In rare instances as in case of Baba, if the movie fails to make profits, Rajini calls on the distributors and disburses the loss incurred thereby equating the earning and the expenditure.

While this is the case of Sivaji, Dasavatharam remunerates Kamal with a 7 crore paycheck. KS Ravikumar is next in the line with a crore’s pay check. Himesh Reshmmiya is paid 50 lakh followed by Asin with a 45 lakh.

Mallika Sherawat receives a whopping 40 lakh for her flicker of an appearance and Ravivarman, the cinematographer is paid 40 lakh as well. The rest of the budget is shared by the special effects, wages of technicians, and shooting abroad.

Though Kamal’s movies are a safe bet for the producer, they do not have a minimum guarantee in all distributing areas and only have a say at the box office in metros. At the same time, Kamal’s movies manage to churn out huge expectations, where its run is based on the first report of the public – word of mouth precisely..

Under these circumstances, what remains to be seen is whether the movies are meeting the budget standards and proving to be monstrous hits. If the movies manage to pull off blockbusters at the box office, the producers and the distributors will definitely be in high spirits.

Shankar - No competition

Shankar is generally media-shy and stays away from interviews, especially while making a movie. He is particular that no detail about his movie should spill out.

But he has opened his mind out to a popular Tamil weekly. Though he has not said anything specific, he has spoken a lot about Shivaji, the movie starring Rajinikanth.

He has said that the film would have a strong message like it has been the case with all his movies before. But there will also be elements that will satisfy Rajini’s fans.

It will be a happy mix of both, he has said in the interview.

Shankar, who sounds relaxed all through the interview, has also played down suggestions that the movie is a competition to Kamal Haasan’s Dasavatharam, which, like Sivaji, is also scheduled to release on April 14. ‘There is no rivalry or competition. They are making movie. We are making a movie. That is all to it’.

Credible sources revealed that Sivaji has 7 songs to its credit. All being pep songs with energetic beats from Rahman, they are sure to propel the movie’s music in the top position for a long time.

Va ji, Va ji, Sivaji…
This could be the opening song of the movie. Though it was decided earlier not to have Rajini’s entry into the movie with an introductory song, Shankar is contemplating with the thought of reinstating one such song. That could be it.

As is the rule in Rajini’s movies, we presume that this is a philosophical number joining the likes of other famous songs of the same genre, which are quintessential for his movies.

Will Sivaji and Dasavatharam suffer a setback in release?

Movies of other languages are not released in Karnataka on their release date elsewhere. The release of Stalin has challenged this rule and is receiving brickbats from the Karnataka film association and its Chairman H D Gangaraj.

In a press release recently, Gangaraj criticized the producer of Stalin for releasing the flick on the same day in Karnataka of its release elsewhere. He also stated that a complaint would be lodged against the producer with the Telugu Film Chamber for not respecting the guidelines.

Earlier, Rajini’s Baba faced trouble for its release in Karnataka on the same day of its release all over. Rajini elevated the matter to the veteran of Kannada cinema Rajkumar and held discussions with him to resolve the issue. Eventually, Rajkumar agreed to the release of Baba in Karnataka marking an end to the concerns.

Under these circumstances, Rajini’s upcoming Sivaji is due for release during mid 2007 and if the Karnataka film association raises the issue again, the movie is likely to face trouble for its release. Now that Rajkumar has passed away, it remains to be seen what will be the stand of the Karnataka film association for the release of the movie. So is the plight of Kamal’s Dasavatharam. Besides, Tamil movies make good business in Karnataka than Kannada movies.

It’s Diwali holidays for Superstar & Sivaji crew

Sivaji has been shaping up day and night incessantly in and around Chennai at a supersonic phase as reported by us earlier. Binny Mill campus, Pulianthope, Juvenile home in Chengalpattu, and a star hotel in Chennai are some of the venues that had seen Rajini donning his costumes. Shankar has been on a roll, as he always is, and was working frantically to finish the schedule of the movie. Now that he has finished the particular schedule, he bestowed the crew with a break of two weeks. The shoots were wrapped on Saturday and will resume only after Diwali.

The entire crew including Rajini heaved a sigh of relief after the grueling session of shoots, which lasted for months together. Shankar is now busy arranging for Imsai Arasan’s 100th day celebrations, to be headed by none other than Superstar. Rajini has errands to run and he is more than just happy to have the much-awaited break. He has promises to keep. He had promised to view KD and let Jyothikrishna know of his opinion about the movie. Apart from that he also had to view Lage Raho Munnabhai since the holders of the remake rights are keen to cast Rajini in the Tamil version of Lage Raho.

On the personal front though, Rajini’s daughter is due for delivery during the end of this month, which would honor him with a grandpa’s title. Rajini is already making plans for the break and is all set to fulfill his commitments. Let us hope that the entire crew will be rejuvenated and face the camera with a fresh leash of enthusiasm after the break.

Sivaji, Shreya and her jail connection

Shreya has grabbed quite a lot of public attention these days. Her celebrity status has soared to unbelievable levels owing to her part in Sivaji and her being cast opposite Rajini definitely did help a lot. Couple of years ago she could easily have passed off as just another college girl when she made her sidekick appearance in Unakku 18 Enakku 20. These days though, she is all over in news and is actually enjoying the attention that she gets.

She is busy shooting for Sivaji these days. Actually, only for Sivaji. Her contract with Shankar prevents her from committing to any other movies till the completion of Sivaji.

Suman turns villain in Sivaji

Every actor has his ups and downs. But some talented and of course, lucky ones, can always prove their mettle. Suman is one such actor who believes in hard work. He has proved that he is fit to play any character, be it mythological or social.

He has seen many phases in his two decades of experience in the film industry. But Annamayya was undoubtedly his lucky chance and he proved he fitted the bill when it came to mythological roles.

‘‘Lord Venkateswara Swamy’s role in Annamayya was the turning point in my career. Miracles happened after I performed this role. I became a vegetarian and a sudden change of habits took place. The divine roles I played are responsible for this,’’ he believes.

Many people had doubts about his character in the film, but once the film was released, everybody praised him. Now, Suman is the first choice for mythological roles.

For the first time, Suman plans to play the villain in the much-talked about Sivaji by Shankar. ‘‘This is going to be one of the best films in my career. People eagerly wait to get a small role in Shankar’s films, but I got a good character which I hope will fetch a good name for me.’’

‘‘Working with Shankar was a great experience. He is a good director with vast technical knowledge,’’ he says, praising Shankar.

Before the film started rolling, Shankar had asked Suman whether he would be comfortable in a wig. ‘‘I opted for my original hair. In this film, Rajnikanth is the hero and I am the villain,’’ says Suman. The story revolves around these two characters. ‘‘Playing the villain is also a lesson for me. Shankar has brought out the character very well. The villain does not fight with the hero. The rage building in him turns him into a negative character.’’

Suman holds a black belt in karate. He says karate not only helps him in fight sequences but has also proved to be good for his physique.

Suman has, many a time, proved to be a safe bet for upcoming producers. Down-to-earth, practical and sensible, he knows where he stands and attributes the secret of his success to his exposure to the rock bottom of life, qualities which have earned him long innings in a highly competitive and uncertain field.

But it’s not easy to play a mythological character. ‘‘Putting on the make up takes three to four hours and another hour is taken up removing it. The ornaments weigh a lot and we have to wear them for a long time,’’ he admits

Suman is playing nine different characters in Sri Satyanarayana Swamy. ‘‘Apart from Lord Satyanarayana, I am doing roles of different Gods,’’ he says. He feels that some invisible power is backing him, helping him play the mythological characters. ‘‘I observe certain rules when I play this type of roles,’’ he confesses.

What next? This is a question that Tamil cinema is forever asking Rajinikanth.

As you all know, Rajini is now fully immersed in Shivaji.

This Shankar-directed, AVM-produced movie is progressing at a very fast clip.

But what after Shivaji?

Rajinikanth as ever is very taciturn. He doesn’t spell out his stand.

But already there are many in the industry that is ready with a story and script for the superstar.

One among them is Murugadoss. The diminutive director, who caught us our attention with Ramana and Ghajini, says he is ready with a story for Rajinikanth.

Murugadoss has just come out of a blockbuster in Telugu for Chiranjeevi. His Stalin for Chiranjeevi has been a hit, and his treatment of the script to suit the image of Telugu superstar has won him much plaudits.

Murugadoss looks someone who can make stories for Rajinikanth.

He says he has got that written. ‘We have finished Stalin ahead of schedule. I am planning to direct a movie in Hindi’.

After that, with Rajini also through Sivaji, it maybe Murugadoss turn.

Ever since director Shankar commenced shooting for Rajinikanth starrer Sivaji, rumors were abuzz that Malayalam star Mohanlal would play an important role in the movie. However, the actor reportedly declined the offer because of his hectic schedule in Malayalam movies.

Grapevine had it that Hindi actor Nana Patekar would replace him. However Nana Patekar, on his part, denied being approached for Sivaji.

Now sources close to Shankar, say, 'Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt may eventually play the role. He has been briefed of his role. It looks likely that he would be part of Sivaji.'

Also efforts are still on to persuade Big B (Amitabh Bachchan) to act in the role.

Will 'Shivaji' change its name?

Tamilnadu's language-based politics didn't even spare the film industry. Whenever a film with an English name in its title was released, it used to face violent opposition from the members of a political party.

Out of fear, most producers and directors used to abandon their English and Devanagari titles and switched to Tamil names. It is ironic however that the political parties didn't object to North-Indian heroines and playback singers who went about murdering the language in the songs.

The new government announced tax exemption for films that are named in Tamil. Suddenly, everybody was rushing to change the names to Tamil. 'Nuvvustanante Nenodantana's Tamil remake was initially called 'Something, Something Unakkum Yenakum'. It dropped 'Something, Something' from its title.

Kollywood is now curious if director Shankar would change the name of his film 'Shivaji' to something in pure Tamil. 'Shivaji' is a north-Indian name and the film might attract sales taxes if it gets released with that name. But, it would become an insult to the memories of acclaimed actor late 'Shivaji' Ganeshan, after whom the film is believed to be named.

Question remains- will Shankar and AVM change the film's name to avoid huge sales taxes that the film is most likely to attract and risk insulting 'Shivaji' Ganeshan or will it continue with the non-Tamil name and pay taxes?

Rajinikanth in police station

The presence of Rajinikanth in a police station at Pulianthope in north Chennai created kerfuffle in the locality.

Anxious fans thronged in large numbers to find out reason why Superstar was at the police station.

Eventually it turned out to be a shooting. Rajinikanth was shooting for his Sivaji at the police station in the presence of director Shankar and cinematographer KV Anand.

Anxious reporters and photographers too thronged the area to get a glimpse of the proceedings.

Eventually police personnel had to take control of the entire area and drive away fans who were posing hindrance to the shooting, which was on with prior permission from the police.

Sujatha the distinguished Tamil writer has a varied and vivid experience as a dialogue writer for Tamil films. He has been associated with Shankar, Manirathnam, Kamal and a hoard of others. The keyword for contemporary cinema is ‘don’t talk, show’.

The pioneer for this style of filming is Manirathnam. Shankar also follows similar style of dialogue writing. Though these two illustrious directors differ in their film making style, they are alike in having their character speak in crispy tones.

There would be lengthy dialogues only when there is a chance of a scene not being understood by the audience. Unless it is extremely essential, these directors are not inclined to let their characters go on a talking parade.

The TV scene in Indian where the Indian thatha talks of corruption, TV interview scene in Mudhalvan, Nehru stadium scene in Anniyan- these are some of the scenes which had long drawn out dialogues. An intelligent filmmaker would rely more on the body language to convey the emotions or the essence of a scene rather than through the prolonged dialogues. In the recent times Sujatha has written a fairly lengthy dialogue for Sivaji in a terrace scene. Rajini fans would have to wait for some more time to enjoy their icon mouthing such a speech.

Sivaji: Rajini’s fluttering hair – not this time

The man never ceases to surprise us. One might think that the Superstar has achieved everything that an actor can in filmdom, yet he keeps finding new ways of making things better, for himself, for others and most of all, for the viewers. We have heard a lot about him, but we have certainly not heard everything and definitely not heard the last about him. This man still seems as enthusiastic as a schoolchild while shooting for his films.

No, this is not an ode dedicated to the superstar written by a fanatic; we have solid facts to support our statements.

This is what happened on the sets of Sivaji a few days back. A scene was being shot which involved the superstar and his nemesis (in the movie) Suman. Though Suman is one of the most experienced actors he couldn’t come up to Shankar’s expectation that day and the particular scene was retaken and retaken and retaken – for not less than 15 times till Shankar finally said ‘OK.’ All the while Rajni was patiently redoing his part without showing any signs of frustration whatsoever. A complete professional!

Now, here’s another one. During his earlier movies Rajni was in the habit of standing in front of the giant propeller, usually found in shootings, and enjoying the breeze/gust of wind, whatever you want to call it. The sight of Rajni’s original hair fluttering about in the wind would be marvelous. But nowadays we couldn’t see that scene since the wind would spoil the wig that he is wearing. And what a full time assistant has been recruited by Shankar to see to it that the hairpiece meant for the movie is properly in place.

No opening song for Rajni in Sivaji

‘You will not find the usual Rajni opening song in Sivaji, where he will advise his fans on how to live ,’’ says AR Rahman. Instead, the ace music director says he has come up with five rollicking numbers, which are out and out entertainers.

Rahman is awestruck with the picturisation of two of the songs in the film, of which he had a sneak preview with director Shankar.

‘‘They are simply amazing,’’ he confesses. After the stupendous success of Rang de Basanti, everyone’s expectations of Rahman have gone up, have they not? Rahman gives his trademark laugh. ‘‘The minute you say Rajni or Shankar, you can be sure everything will be spectacular. For my part, I paid special attention to the songs. I wanted them to be powerful,’’ he says.

Anything else that we can share with our readers? ‘‘I have not seen such a good-looking, handsome Rajni as this. He looks fabulous,’’ says Rahman, whetting further everyone’s appetite for the film, which is being produced by AVM.

On the colorful sets of Rajini starrer Shivaji, Director Shankar and Choreographer Lawrence went languishing clean bold behind the race seeing Rajini go gizmo-freak for a rock number. Their hearts fluttered superstar sashaying effortlessly after a few quick shots with barely any retakes. Anyway its got to be Shankar's movie filled with Zest.

This highly expected movie is expected to realease by 2007 Tamil New Year. But sources say the movie is almost complete and might release by late 2006. Watch this space regularly for further improvements.

Rajini`s magic lures a bridegroom

Shivaji film never can escape from being in the news.

The latest one from the Shivaji is interesting, though it doesn't involve any of the film’s cast and crew.

Shivaji, these days, is being shot a Thiruporur on the outskirts of Chennai.

There was a huge commotion at the shooting spot yesterday as one of the onlookers went missing and his friends and relatives went on a search for him.

The huge manhunt was because the guy was a bridegroom and had set out of the marriage hall in his eagerness to see Rajnikanth shoot for the film.

As it happened, he got mixed in the crowd and his folks had to search for him in the sea of humanity that had gathered to watch the film shoot.

After some serious search, the man was found and taken back to his own wedding.

Suman gushes about Sivaji experience

Looks like actor Suman has finally go his big break. Acting in a Rajni film is something big in itself. Acting in a role that is opposite to Rajni’s character is an honour and also an onerous responsibility. Suman is playing the villain in Rajni’s magnum opus and he is extremely thrilled about it. This is what he had to say he was asked about his latest assignment.

He was full of thanks for Shankar who chose him for the role in spite of many veteran ‘bad guys’ who would gladly do the role. One can vividly recall villains of many Rajni movies who gave the movie as much impact as Rajni did. In fact, it would not be wrong to say that the villains added impetus to the character of Rajni. Raghuvaran’s ‘Antony’ in Baasha and Ramya Krishnan’s ‘Neelambari’ in Padaiyappa are shining examples of this.

Notwithstanding the fact hat these actors are still around Shankar has gone for Suman. We all know Shankar and we can be assured that he would not have done this without reason.

According to Suman this character will be something that is not even remotely related to the characters he has done before. It will be something that most moviegoers would not associate Suman with. Suman said that his character has been carefully etched by Shankar giving full attention even to the minutest detail. Since it is a Rajni movie it is sure to be seen by a worldwide audience and many more people will start recognizing Suman after Sivaji releases. By now, viewers would have got exhausted about news on Aishwarya Rai in Sivaji. But as per the latest industry sources, Shankar is trying to bring Aishwarya in Sivaji. The role though small would be significant and pivotal and would run parallel to that of Rajni’s. He is waiting for her nod. Reliable sources feel that Aishwarya owes one to Shankar as he was the one who cast her in Jeans and gave her a break.

As we all know that while making a film, Shankar firmly believes in secrecy and information is very hard to obtain in his sets. Rajni, Rahman & Shankar trio - Break the rulez!

Film audience always needs to be kept guessing as to what they are going to see on the screen. Variety is undoubtedly an

ingredient that can guarantee at least decent returns if not huge profits for a movie. We have seen in the past that the

audience has unfailingly accepted movies that have broken the mould, even if there was no big star cast. The 2004 Kadhal and

this year’s Imsai Arasan are very good examples.

So, anyone who has been in movies for a long time knows the importance of not getting typecast or predictable. One needs to

be versatile if one has to stick around. Even Superstar Rajnikanth is no exception. We all saw what happened when he tried to

rework the tried and tested formula in Baba. He had to then opt for something we had never seen him do before in

Chandramukhi, and it is still running in the city. That’s what change is all about. Rajni seems to have grasped this point

quite well and if reports are anything to go by, then we can expect a lot of fresh things in Sivaji.

What are the changes? Well do not be surprised. In Sivaji, there will be no typical Rajni introduction song with the

trademark philosophies and national integration ideas cropping up in the lyrics. We all love to see those larger than life

intro songs, the fans go crazy, remember Devuda…. But Shankar is not the man who will buckle to set trends and stylisms. His

style is that he has no trademark style and that’s what makes him a top director.

When the music composer A R Rahman was contacted for his comments, he appeared to be very pleased with the way the songs have

shaped up. In addition to the ‘Shankar, Rajini’ special, the audience will have Rahman special also in Sivaji. Five songs

have been composed and all of them have come out very well and fresh. Shankar had shown two of the songs to Rahman that have

been shot and Rahman in turn is very impressed with the finished product. “Visuals are very beautiful and have a happy tone

in them. I have not seen a better looking Rajini till now. He looks very handsome’, says Rahman.

The first song in the movie has been picturised on Rajni and Shreya with Lawrence doing the choreography. Usually it is Tarun

master who choreographs all Rajni intro songs. The song was shot at the Binny mills in Chennai. Well, now we all know that we

are not going to get the usual Rajni intro. We shall find out how good the new one is only when the movie releases.

The battle between Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth's movies at the box-office is always viewed with interest.

Rajini irritated by Peter Haynes; Sivaji stalled for a short time!!

A film that has Rajinikanth playing the lead, Shankar wielding the megaphone and AVM handling the production must go on without any hassles, one might think. But, that is not the case.

Don’t get upset, especially if you are one of those diehard Rajini fans waiting eagerly for Sivaji. The problems don’t seem to be too serious, maybe just flared tempers at the end of a long day and nothing else. After all we know enough about Rajini to be sure that he won’t disappoint his fans. This is just a brief account of what seems to have happened on the sets of Sivaji over the last 2 days. Mind you, Sivaji shooting is being carried out under very closely guarded premises and any news is hard to come. What we got to hear might be an exaggeration; ‘mountain out of a molehill’.

The superstar’s driver is reportedly the one behind the first act of this play of two acts. Rajini had a very small part to play in this first act; the driver of the caravan did all the talking. The superstar wanted to read the day’s newspaper during a break in shooting. The policeman standing guard outside Rajini’s caravan couldn’t find anybody in the unit to get one. So he himself bought a newspaper and handed it to the superstar who was inside the caravan.

The driver makes his appearance now, after being absent for all this while. He was infuriated to know that the policeman had actually entered the caravan. What followed was a verbal thrashing of the poor policeman; the reason seems to be appallingly inadequate. At the end of the barrage of words, the driver warned the policeman against breathing a word about this to the superstar. He reportedly threatened the policeman with serious consequences.

All this while, Rajinikanth was reading his newspaper inside, he was unaware of the commotion outside, after all caravans are made to keep unwanted sounds away. Whether the superstar was told about all this by anyone later is anybody’s guess. But that issue seems to have been dead and buried then and there.

So you thought that this was the problem that was being referred to at the beginning.

You might be wondering why all the ‘build up’ had been given just to tell this silly matter. Well, then the news is just about to come. Take it.

Act 2: Rajini leaves the shooting spot!

Surprised! Read on. A fight scene of Sivaji was being filmed at the Binny mills in Chennai. Till this incident everything had been going on as smoothly as one could ask for. The entire unit was awestruck by the way Rajini was conducting himself on the sets of the film. He showed amazing energy and schoolboy enthusiasm for every shot.

He was all ears to what Shankar had to say and never insisted upon any changes for his sake

Then what could have gone wrong! Well, the fight scene being filmed was a trifle risky. A few of the stunt artistes actually got injured during the shoot. Now, this did not please the Superstar, he accorded primary importance to safety. He himself was suffering from a minor injury and his shoulders seems to have been in pain. This however did not stop stunt director Peter Hayne from going ahead and choreographing even more dangerous stunts. All this in spite of the Superstar’s request/instruction. This, not surprisingly, angered the Superstar, who reportedly left the shooting spot immediately.

Now, who is to blame, we leave it to you to decide. We do not dispute the fact that Rajini had every right to be concerned about his safety and that of his co-stars too. But all said and done, it is Rajini who walked out

Going by Rajini’s spotless record (he has never left a shooting spot before pack up time) the incident must have been serious. With this entire happening on the sets, one man seems to be conspicuously missing from the scene, director Shankar.

One might think that he should have been in the thick of things, settling the issue.

As it was mentioned at the start, all news regarding Sivaji has to come past a tight cordon of secrecy. So all Tamil movie lovers, no need to get upset. Sivaji will for sure hit the theatres and the Superstar will mesmerize us all with his timeless style. This is just a minor aberration, after all, for the man who overcame the debacle of Baba, this is nothing; JUJUBEE!

Sivaji shaping up well

Rajinikanth's Sivaji is shaping up well. The much talked about film being directed by Shankar for the famed AVM Productions has generated lot of expectations in the entire Tamil film industry.

Bringing together big names in industry like A R Rehman and K V Anand, the movie is currently being shot in Binny Mills in Chennai. A couple of days ago, a song sequence featuring Rajinikanth was shot. Set to tunes by A R Rehman, it is supposedly a mass number. Lawrence Raghavendra is choreographing the song.

Lawrence who is directing Muni took a break from the sets of Muni to be with Rajinikanth for filming the song sequence. Another grand set was erected at the Binny Mills in Chennai where a stunt sequence was also being shot.

With all things going well, the shooting for Sivaji is expected to be completed.

This year’s most expected visual extravaganza Rajini’s Sivaji is being shot in and around Chennai with extraordinary security measures.

Shankar, the ace director who joins hands with Rajini for Sivaji does not want to take the risk of leakage of any sensational news about Sivaji and so the tight vigil.

Seems like some people got lucky to barge into the shoots and have a sneak peek of Rajini’s acrobatic stunts. Sivaji’s shoot was underway in an extravagant set to replicate London in the Binny mill yesterday and Lawrence, the dance master was mending Rajini’s steps for the song sequence. A crowd with close to 40 people rushed inside the sets to catch a glimpse of Rajini.

A baffled Shankar obviously got irritated to notice the crowd and questioned them on how they managed to get into the sets even after tight security arrangements deployed in the set.

It turned out that the production manager Sakthi was related to them and he graced them with his permission. Shankar undoubtedly chewed Sakthi’s head out.

Latest on Sivaji is that Mallika Sherawat was recently in town to shake her legs with Rajini for a hot item number. The leggy hottie, after her bootylicious performance in Sivaji left to the sets of Dasavatharam where she is reportedly playing a negative character.

சென்னை,ஆக.10: ரஜினி நடிக்கும் சிவாஜி படப்பிடிப்பில் திடீரென ஒரு கூட்டம் நுழைந்ததால் படப்பிடிப்பு பாதிக்கப்பட்டது.

நேற்று காலை சென்னையில் பின்னி மில் இயங்கிய இடத்தில் பாடல் காட்சி படமாக்கப்பட்டது. இதற்காக லண்டனைப் போன்ற சூழலில் பிரமாண்ட கட்டடங்கள் இருப்பது போன்று ரூ. 50 லட்சத்தில் செட் போடப்பட்டிருந்தது.

அந்த செட்டில் ரஜினிக்கு டான்ஸ் மாஸ்டர் லாரன்ஸ் நடனம் கற்றுக் கொடுத்துக்கொண்டு இருந்தார். அப்போது திடீரென படப்பிடிப்பு நடக்கும் இடத்தில் 40க்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் ரஜினியை பார்க்க செட்டுக்குள் நுழைந்தனர். இதைக் கண்டு ரஜினியும், ஷங்கரும் கடும் அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்தனர்.

இதனால் படப்பிடிப்பு தடைபட்டது. கடும் பாதுகாப்பையும் மீறி 40க்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் வந்தது ஷங்கரால் நம்ப முடியவில்லை. அவர்களிடம் நீங்க எப்படி வந்தீங்க என கேட்டிருக்கிறார். வேடிக்கைப் பார்க்க வந்தவர்கள், மேனேஜரிடம் கேட்டுட்டுத்தான் வந்தோம் என சொன்னதால், எந்த மேனேஜர், யாரைக்கேட்டு பர்மிஷன் கொடுத்தார் என ஷங்கர் கோபப்பட, தெரிந்தவர்கள் என்பதால் புரொடக்ஷன் மேனேஜரான சக்திதான் எங்களுக்கு அனுமதி கொடுத்தார் என அவர்கள் கூறினர். இதையடுத்து சக்தியை கடிந்துகொண்டார் ஷங்கர்.
பின்னர் பாதுகாப்பு பணியாளர்கள் வந்து, செட்டில் நுழைந்தவர்களை வெளியே அனுப்பினர். தொடர்ந்து படப்பிடிப்பு நடைபெற்றது.

Rajini suffers a flu attack

Works of Rajini starrer Sivaji is under full swing and the shoot suffered a tiny break after Rajini had a flu attack. The shooting was underway in Delhi and Rajini was accompanied by Manivannan, Vadivukkarasi, Vivek and Shreya. An affluent Rajini after earning big bucks from his job abroad comes home.

This scene was canned in Delhi in a huge bungalow. Following this, the arrest of Rajini by IPS officer Shanmugharajan is also shot in Delhi.

A scene where Rajini is shown to be letting his hair down with the kids around is shot by Shankar. Shankar made Rajini roll in slushy mud the same way he did with Arjun in ‘Mudhalvan’ and Vikram in ‘Anniyan’. Owing to this reason, Rajini caught a flash flu and sources declared that he recovered quickly.

The crew is back in Chennai and the shoot is in progress in an enormous market set in Binny Mills. Fight scenes with Rajini and the Villains in the market set are being shot and Peter Hein served as the stunt master. Song sequences involving Rajini and Shreya are also being shot here for which Lawrence mended their steps. Shivaji is expected to hit the screens on Diwali.

ஷங்கர் இயக்கும் ‘சிவாஜி’ படத்தின் படப்பிடிப்பு சமீபத்தில் டெல்லியில் நடந்தது. ரஜினி, மணிவண்ணன், வடிவுக்கரசி, விவேக், ஸ்ரேயா சம்பந்தமான காட்சிகள் படமாக்கப்பட்டன.

வெளிநாட்டில் பல கோடி ரூபாய் பணம் சம்பாதித்த ரஜினி, சென்னையிலுள்ள தன் வீட்டுக்கு வரும் காட்சி படமானது. இதற்காக டெல்லி அருகே பிரமாண்டமான பங்களா ஒன்றைத் தேர்வு செய்து, அங்கு படப்பிடிப்பு நடத்தப்பட்டது. அடுத்து, ரஜினியை போலீஸ் ஆபீசர் சண்முகராஜன் கைது செய்து அழைத்துச் செல்லும் காட்சியும் படமானது.

தொடர்ந்து, சிறுவர்களுடன் ரஜினி சந்தோஷமாக அரட்டை அடித்த காட்சியை ஷங்கர் படமாக்கினார்.

'Sivaji' in Capital City Delhi

'Sivaji', is creating huge sensation and stir in the Indian Film Industry right from day one. This is the first film in the combination of Superstar Rajinikanth and mega director Shanker.

The director and the producer have kept the story and the role of Rajini a top-secret. The shooting of the film is going on in a cloak-and-dagger manner. Imagination is the key word here, when it comes to the story and the role of Rajini in the film. One thing is for sure; the character of Rajini will have different shades. Presently, the shooting of 'Shivaji' is in its concluding stages.

Crucial scenes of the film are being shot in the capital city of Delhi. Nobody is coming forward to enlighten the public about the completion of the film.

Shreya is the heroine. Suman is playing the role of anti-hero in the film. Whiz kid A.R.Rahman is the music director.

Shankar and Sivaji:

Post Imsai Arasan!!Shankar is seeing success like never before. He had a very good 2005 with his Anniyan doing amazing business. Earlier, in 2004 his production Kaadhal full of newcomers had become a hit.

This year it is his production Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikesi that has broken all industry and box office trends and gone on to become a superhit. All this success has suddenly givenShankar anew image. He is now being seen in industry circles as the man with the Midas touch. As a result, everyone wants to be associated with him and his works. His production house is currently involved in a film titled Veyil starring Bharath. The director of the movie is the little known guy who had earlier directed Album that had been a damp squib. Earlier the film had not been in all that great demand in trade circles around the state.

But after Imsai Arasan, Veyil seems to have become hot property. Distributors are falling over each other in an attempt to get the rights of the movie. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Shankar’s directorial venture, Superstar’s Sivaji which was already making news for it’s record prices has just taken another step up the ratings. The prices now are reportedly astronomical, and what more; the distributors are ready to pay. Theatres in Chennai like Devi complex that has not released any major films for quite some time are too reportedly keenly interested in the movie.

So are many others, so much so that it has become a matter of pride for a distributor to obtain the movie at any cost.

Shankar must certainly be enjoying this.

Will Superstar's Sivaji avail tax benefit?

Change of titles seems to be the order of the day for all Tamil movies with non-Tamil names; the reason, Tamil Nadu government’s decision to exempt movies with fully Tamil titles from entertainment tax.

The announcement saw a flurry of changes taking place. The first of which was Something Something Unakkum Enakkum, with Something Something being pushed as the tagline and we can witness this in the film’s ads in major dailies which carried ‘Something Something’ very inconspicuously. Many other movies awaiting release are following suite. Surya starrer Sillunu oru Kadhal formerly Jillinu oru Kadhal was the first of the front line star movies to do so.

All the producers seem to be eager to take full advantage of the exemption and save a lot of their money. Amidst reports about changes of names for many movies, the most awaited movie of the year, Superstar’s Sivaji has come into focus. Why has it come into focus? Well, it is because some people have ventured to say that the movie will need a change of title if it is to avail of the tax benefit.

Sivaji is not a pure Tamil name! Say some Tamil purists. The disputed part of the name is the syllable ‘Ji’ which is supposed to be of North Indian origin. Well, there is no dispute that Ji is a term used more in North India than in the south and that is precisely the reason why Jillinu oru Kadhal became Sillunu oru Kadhal.

The Superstar, however is unperturbed by these developments. (Does a movie starring him require tax exemptions to recover cost?) His circle has opined that the actor would wait and watch for the Chief Minister’s reaction on this.

Meanwhile it is Chief minister Karunanidhi who has been left in the spotlight and in a spot of bother as he has two friends on either side of the bar - on one side the legendary Sivaji Ganesan and on the other side, the Super star Rajinikanth.

As mentioned earlier some Tamil purists have pointed out the un-Tamil origin of Sivaji. Some others have opined that the name Sivaji belongs to one of the greatest artistes of the Tamil film industry and one of the finest ambassadors of pure and classical Tamil. It would be sacrilege to say that his name is not pure Tamil. Now it’s up to Kalaignar to take the all-important decision. The name of Sivaji is unlikely to be changed under any circumstance, that’s the style of the Superstar. The ball is in the government’s court.

Shreya’s father shares his experience of acting with Superstar in Sivaji!!

The Sivaji team is in the thick of action. Shankar and his crew are working at a hectic pace to complete the film. Details about the film are being kept closely under wraps and the media does not know much about the film or the on site happenings. We caught up with a very popular personality associated with the film. Meet Raja – popular speaker on Tamil pattimandrams.

Raja works for a bank and lives in Madurai. His forte is sarcasm and his arguments soaked with humor bring the house down at every pattimandram.

A constant fixture on all such events hosted on special occasions like Deepavali and Tamil New Year, he relies more on practical and experiential anecdotes rather than literary elements.

Now viewers would have the chance to see him on the big screen. He plays Shreya’s father in Sivaji.

How was he feeling making a film debut in a Superstar film? In his trademark rustic style he says, “People came from Shankar’s office and lifted me (gundukatta thookittu ponanga). I did not know what was going on. They asked me to speak a few lines and took some stills. After a few days, I got a call that I would be working in Sivaji playing Shreya’s father.”

About Rajini he says, “Perfect gentlemanunga. He told me that he had watched my pattimandrams and enjoyed them.

He was very generous in his praise. He is a thorough professional and makes you feel at ease”.

Any interesting episode? “Oh well, we were waiting for a shot once. The cameraman called out to me mela parunga. I did not know that in cine lingo this means “look into the camera”. I blissfully looked up into the sky and the entire unit, including Rajini sir, burst out laughing. Till date, I have made so many people laugh through my speech. That day, I made superstar laugh with my antics.”
